Metal Slug (合金弹头) is SNK's 1996 run-and-gun — hand-drawn animation, the SV-001 tank, prisoners to free, and everything on screen coming apart when you shoot it.
Metal Slug (合金弹头) is the 1996 run-and-gun that Nazca Corporation made for SNK's Neo Geo, and it is still the one people point at when they talk about hand-drawn animation in games.
Everything in it is drawn frame by frame — the soldiers, the tanks that buckle as they take hits, the prisoners you cut loose who hand you a weapon and wander off. The SV-001 that gives the series its name is a small tank you climb into and can keep fighting without, and the difficulty is arcade difficulty: it was built to take coins.
The archive runs the Neo Geo original in this browser, reading the game data you supply. Six buttons and a stick map onto the keyboard by default and can be rebound on the page, and a gamepad works if one is plugged in.
